Project: Accessibility and Inclusivity Progress Report 2024
The Client: Deloitte Canada
The Brief
Write a progress report for Deloitte Canada on how it’s improving accessibility and inclusivity for people with disabilities and neurodivergent people.
Target audience
A diverse audience, including individuals with disabilities, organizational leaders, clients, policymakers, and the wider community.
The Process/Strategy
1. Define the audience and purpose
Avoid a dry compliance summary. Focus on culture: what’s working, what isn’t, and why it matters now.
2. Align on the narrative arc
Frame the report as a story of Deloitte’s accessibility journey—starting with initial commitments and what prompted them, then highlighting milestones, barriers (crucial for credibility), and evolving ambitions.
3. Gather source material
Draw from previous action plans, internal data, and interviews with key stakeholders—especially ERG leads, neurodivergent employees, HR/DEI leaders, and accessibility partners.
4. Extract and synthesize insights
Identify the strongest quotes, moments, and metrics that illustrate meaningful progress. Prioritize candour over spin.
5. Shape the voice and tone
Balance factual reporting with human stories and thoughtful reflection. Maintain a tone that is accessible, honest, and forward-looking.
6. Develop within a managed review process
Collaborate with DEI leaders, brand/comms, legal, and accessibility experts to ensure accuracy, alignment, and inclusivity—both in message and format.
